Melanie Gagich, Senior College Lecturer for the Department of English at Cleveland State University provides a tutorial presentation on creating screencast videos and how to use screencasting for student-centered learning. “This presentation argues that integrating student-created screencast videos in various learning contexts promotes student-centered learning and creativity. These assignments can also support collaboration, provide students with a space to show problem-solving skills, and illustrate writing processes. The presentation also provides a sample assignment with student responses and examples. It concludes with a brief overview of how to use a free screencasting tool.”

Thijs Heus Associate Professor for the Department of Physics at Cleveland State University & ADAM Co-Director, Shawn Ryan, Associate Professor for the Department of Mathematics at Cleveland State University & ADAM Co-Director, Stephen Kennedy, ADAM Graduate Assistant, Jessica Bickel, Assistant Professor for the Department of Physics, provides a tutorial and demonstration on some initial classroom setup for data science and programming skills. The ADAM Research Center provides help for CSU faculty, at the Ohio Supercomputing Center, which is freely available for Ohio Colleges.

Jessica Bickel, Assistant Professor for the Department of Physics, provides an introductory tutorial on how to use Perusall in the classroom. “Perusall is a tool that allows students to asynchronously read the textbook collaboratively. By commenting on and asking/answering questions about the text, students read the text before they come to class. Recent data by the author in Physics classes shows that students DO read when using this tool.”

Cynthia Larsen, Lake Erie Ink’s co-founder and Education Director, provides a presentation on ‘Writing for Fun to Build Confident Writers.’ “Learn how to play with writing through new prompts for independent and collaborative writing for grades 3rd-12th.”

Jessica Edens, Graduate Research Assistant for the Cleveland Teaching Collaborative at Cleveland State University, provides a presentation on how to enhance literacy in K-12 classrooms. “Educators are expected to provide differentiated lessons that guide students into becoming great readers. The goal is to create a classroom environment that is positive and enthusiastic about reading. Resources that build on current knowledge and are engaging for students will help motivate the reader to succeed. Educators and parents need easy, free access to resources that can promote student achievement. Students in all grade levels can access these resources from home with a computer, tablet, or phone.”

Chris Rennison, Senior Instructional Technologist for the Center for Instructional Technology + Distance Learning at Cleveland State University, provides a tutorial on the ‘Tree Tour from Scratch.’ This video will show you how to use Google Sites, a graphic editor, and a laser engraver to create a low-cost Tree Tour similar to those you would see in an arboretum.
